Great coaches build better people.

Coaches Corner

Are you interested in coaching?

Having parents volunteer to coach their daughter’s softball team is essential to the success of MYGS. Parent coaches help create a positive, supportive, and fun environment where players can grow both on and off the field. Their involvement not only strengthens the bond between players and families but also ensures that every team has the leadership and guidance it needs to thrive.

Coaches play a vital role in teaching teamwork, sportsmanship, and confidence — values that go far beyond the game. Because of the time, dedication, and commitment required, MYGS proudly waives DIBs requirements for families who volunteer to coach a team. Their contribution truly makes a lasting difference in our program and community.

Background Check

Mosinee Youth Girls Softball (MYGS) requires all coaches—for both City League and Travel teams—to be USA Softball certified and to pass a background check through the official USA Softball website.

Once you are approved and assigned to a team, MYGS will reimburse the cost of your USA Softball certification and background check.

Coaching Resources

🛠 How to Use These Resources Effectively

  • Start with certification and administrative basics: Ensure you’re “league-legal” first (background checks, SafeSport, rulebooks).
  • Build a “coach binder” or digital folder: Include your league’s rules/modifications, age-group skill expectations, sample practice plans, drills.
  • Plan practices before the season: Use the NFCA and portal resources to sketch out practices (# of sessions, focus areas).
  • Align with your players’ age-group: Use age-appropriate drills and expectations (younger players = fundamentals & fun; older = refinement & strategy).
  • Engage parents and volunteers: Many resource portals have coach/parent-guides; making sure everyone knows roles helps your season run smoother.
  • Reflect & adjust: After each practice or game, note what worked/what didn’t and refine using the drills and plans from the resources.
